About US

Blyth & Co. Ltd. (Formerly TLB Services) is a small, customer-focused business, which is based around traditional and time proven methods, along with a mindfulness to seek development, and betterment in the bell hanging trade.

We started trading in 2013, although we have not been established for long, within our workforce we have over 70 years’ worth of experience working within the church bell industry.

We also specialise in Conservation & Preservation and are proud to be on the list of approved contractors for Historic Scotland as well as being endorsed by the National Churches Trust.
We are happy to promote different methods of dealing with historical or historically important bells and bell installations.

We offer a wide range of services

Maintenance Contracts

We offer maintenance programs for any bell installation, often this is carried out annually. Each service is followed up by a report.


Timberwork

We specialise in bell related wood working, this encompasses a large range of item including stays and sliders.

Bell frames

We are able to offer restoration service of existing bell frames, as well as the design and manufacture of new frames be, they steel, cast iron or timber.

 

Traditional Metalworking

We offer a wide range of metal work from reprofiling clappers to designing and manufacturing brand new rope guides.

Chiming Hammers

Another service we are happy to provide is refurbishment or replacement of manual/mechanical clocking hammers, along with instillation of modern electro magnet hammers and control units.

Building work and Safety Access

We are one of only a few bell hanging firms that are happy to undertake bell related building work, and keep it inhouse and not outsource the labour making sure the work is carried out to the highest standard.

Weather ingress solutions

We can provide solutions such as louvre replacement or restoration, weather reducing floors eg. base of spire and using gale breaker on louvres to reduce and eradicate weather ingress. These are preventive measures to stop wind erosion which may affect the tower fabric.

Sound control management

We are happy to offer sound control management to towers, this is ideal for improving bell acoustics internally and externally, allowing the bells to be louder or quieter as per requirements.

Peel/commemorative boards

We can offer a wide range of materials and styles, we prefer to use traditional methods where possible.

Recent Projects

The original Gillet And Johnson tenor clapper had broken so it had a new replacement made to better dimensions and correct the swing speed correlation between the bell and the clapper. Another great turn out working with Exaudite.

Aylestone, Leicestershire

Replacement tenor wheel and a new unique all in one joint pin lubricator staple with refurbished ball for a Baldrick type clapper.

Queensbury, West Yorkshire

The six over-sized S.G clappers have been machined to a sensible proportionate size and weight to help their performance, the balls re-profiled, the stainless steel joint pins replaced and the staples re-drilled as they had become worn due to the shock of the oversized clappers. tops of the clappers have been re-bushed, also new staple nuts and locking nuts provided.
